Even when the Covid 19 pandemic is wreaking havoc in the whole world, there is good news for International Students. Canadian companies stand unfazed in their drive to help lead economic recovery in Canada.

These companies are currently hiring tech candidates.

Here’s an insight by M&G Canada Immigration Consultants. Read on…

On May 13th 2020, the Ontario Immigrant Nominee Program (OINP) issued invitations to 703 Express Entry candidates who had work experience to apply for a provincial nomination for permanent residence. This latest OINP Tech Draw had the lowest CRS requirement (dropped by 46 CRS points) since the first draw which was held in July 2019.

The OINP issued invitations to candidates experienced in these six tech sectors:

  • Computer and information systems managers – NOC 0213
  • Computer engineers – NOC 2147
  • Database analysts and data administrators – NOC 2172
  • Software engineers and designers – NOC 2173
  • Computer programmer and interactive media developers – NOC 2174
  • Web designers and developers – NOC 2175

For these candidates the Comprehensive Ranking System (CRS) scores should be between 421 and 451, which is the lowest in the history of OINP.

An additional 600 CRS points are to be awarded to the invited candidates towards a succeeding federal Express Entry draw, if they receive the provincial nomination. It is to be noted that Ontario has provincial nominee programs (PNP) linked with Express Entry.

Candidates who received a Notification of Interest (NOI), or invitation from OINP, must be acceptable for the Human Capital Priorities stream.

How do the Tech Draws work?

The Tech Draws held by OINP are conducted through the Human Capital Priorities stream. It permits the OINP to search the federal Express Entry pool for candidates who meet the eligibility requirements of the stream.

Candidates should have a profile listed in the Express Entry pool even though a job offer is not essential to be eligible for the Human Capital Priorities Stream.

The main objective of these draws is to specifically seek out eligible Express Entry candidates who have at least one year of continuous paid full-time work experience, or the equivalent in paid part-time work, in one of the six tech-sector occupations listed.

Along with recent PNP-specific Express Entry draws, this OINP draw has caused even more tech workers being selected under the PNP.
