3000 visas per year to be offered under the UK-India Young professionals Scheme.

One of the major crises along with the current economic turmoils the United Kingdom is facing is the shortage of labor force. It is a growing concern for the country which needs to be addressed immediately if the country needs to get back to its feet and in line with economic growth. It is a major challenge for the new Prime Minister of the United Kingdom, and he is expected to take into consideration the various possibilities of infusing more labor force.

Similar to countries like Canada which have rightly seen immigration as the best potential way out to tackle the lack of labor force, the UK too seems to take the same route. That seems to be very evident with the go-ahead signal given by the Rishi Sunak government to the new youth mobility partnership scheme. Called the UK-India Young professionals scheme in which students who want to go to the UK must be 18-30-year-old graduates and can work and live for nearly 2 years.

This scheme will offer as many as 3000 visas per year to young professionals from India to live and work in the UK. India is regarded as one of the first visa national countries to benefit from the UK-India Young Professionals scheme and it is going to strengthen the Mobility partnership and migration between both countries which was agreed upon in 2021. It has been launched by Mr. Sunak as part of the UK’s India-Pacific focus at the G20 Summit in Bali where he met with the Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi. The launch of this scheme is also seen as a strategy to reinforce the economies of both countries and also the exchange of human resources. As per the latest statistics, one-fourth of the UK’s international students come from India thereby projecting a strong connection between the countries.

Let’s take a look at some of the specific highlights of the UK-India Young Professionals Scheme.

  • According to PM Rishi Sunak, 300 visas per year will be offered for young Indian professionals to live and work in the UK.
  • This scheme is called the UK-India Young Professionals Scheme
  • India becomes the first visa national country to get benefitted from this scheme
