As part of their expansion plan to boost the economy, Canada has
invited 381 Express Entry candidates to apply for permanent
residence on April 28th 2021.
Previously candidates needed a nomination from a Provincial Nominee
Program (PNP) to get PR. The cutoff score was 717 as PNP candidates
automatically got 600 points added to their human capital score. This is
the lowest score requirement recorded of any PNP-only draw held so far
this year. Without the nomination, the lowest-scoring candidates would
have had 117 points.
Candidates who had the 717 minimum score were only invited if they
submitted their Express Entry profile before March 16, 2021 at 21:20:50
UTC according to the tie-break rule.
The candidates are nominated by provinces based on the needs of their
regional labour markets as per David Cohen, Senior Attorney of
Campbell Cohen. At the Federal level, due to the nation-wide focus,
local labour shortages may be overlooked. Without the provincially-
managed PNP things may become difficult.
Canada focusing on domestic candidates
Express Entry draws by IRCC only target candidates who are likely to be
in Canada. By 2021, nearly 401,000 new permanent residents are
targeted and of these, 108,500, are expected to come through Express
Entry-managed programs.
Already Canada has invited 55,771 Express Entry candidates in 2021.
On February 13th IRCC invited every single candidate who was eligible
for the Canadian Experience Class. According to IRCC estimates, nearly
90% of these candidates are in Canada already. To get the nomination,
PNP candidates often need work experience, study experience, or some
other connection to the province.
Generally, IRCC holds two Express Entry draws every two weeks for
inviting PNP-only candidates & CEC-only candidates. Due to the
automatic 600-point award, PNP draws tend to have higher score
requirements. CEC draws have lower score requirements & lesser
number of candidates competing for Invitations to Apply (ITAs).
The Canadian government has created six new programs aimed at
essential workers and international student graduates.to achieve its
migration targets of welcoming 401,000 new immigrants in 2021. On
May 6 th , Canada will open the door to 90,000 new immigrants plus an
unlimited number of French-speaking essential workers and graduates.
